Swedish climate-tech company ClearTraced is using AI to automate the collection and verification of ESG data, with Pakistan-based CTO Abdullah Rashid leading the engineering behind the platform.

Companies today publish an enormous amount of information about their environmental, social and governance performance. Annual reports, sustainability disclosures, policies, governance documents and regulatory filings all contain pieces of the picture.

The problem is turning that information into data that can actually be used.

Much of the work is still manual. Researchers and analysts have to locate relevant disclosures, interpret them, extract the right figures, structure the information and check whether the result can be supported by the original source.

As ESG reporting grows more detailed and the demand for comparable sustainability data increases, that process becomes increasingly difficult to scale.

This is where artificial intelligence is beginning to change the equation.

Swedish climate-tech company ClearTraced is building technology designed to automate the collection, analysis and verification of ESG information from corporate disclosures. Its platform uses AI to identify relevant information, extract structured data and connect individual datapoints back to the underlying source material.

That last part is particularly important.

In many AI applications, producing a plausible answer is enough. In ESG, a number without supporting evidence can be difficult to trust. Users may need to know not only what the figure is, but where it came from and whether the original disclosure supports the interpretation.

ClearTraced’s approach therefore puts emphasis on traceability alongside automation. AI can handle much of the initial extraction and processing, while additional validation and human review are used when interpretation or judgment is required.

Among the people building that system is Pakistan-based engineer Abdullah Rashid, co-founder and CTO of ClearTraced, who leads the company’s engineering and AI development.

“The challenge is making the information reliable enough to use,” Rashid says. “Extraction is one part of the problem. You also need to understand whether the model interpreted the disclosure correctly, whether the data is consistent and where exactly the information came from.”

That distinction points to a broader challenge facing enterprise AI.

As companies move from experimenting with AI to using it in operational workflows, the standard for a useful system becomes much higher. The technology has to be capable of handling large volumes of information, but it also has to behave predictably enough for people to rely on its output.

ESG is a particularly demanding environment for that kind of system. Sustainability information can vary significantly in how it is presented, measured and described from one company to another. Relevant information may also be distributed across multiple documents rather than appearing in a single standardized dataset.

AI can help navigate that complexity, but automation alone does not solve the underlying trust problem.

ClearTraced has begun applying its technology in institutional settings, including work involving organizations such as Global Child Forum. The company has also worked with Swedish media and data organizations including Bonnier, Dagens Industri and Millistream.

Its collaboration with Global Child Forum, for example, involves AI-assisted data collection for a corporate children’s rights benchmark while retaining human methodological review. It illustrates a model that is becoming increasingly relevant across business applications of AI: using automation for scale while keeping people involved where context and judgment matter.

That human element may be particularly important during the current phase of AI adoption.

Businesses are still figuring out which tasks can be reliably automated, where oversight is necessary and how AI should fit into existing systems. In many cases, the immediate opportunity is not replacing an entire workflow, but making parts of it dramatically faster.

The same principle applies to ESG research.

Instead of asking AI to independently make a final judgment about a company’s sustainability performance, organizations can use it to process documents, identify relevant evidence and reduce the amount of repetitive work required from analysts.

The potential benefit is not simply speed.

If the resulting information is structured, continuously updated and connected to its source, it could become easier to compare companies, monitor changes and investigate individual datapoints when questions arise.

That could gradually change ESG data from something assembled periodically through manual research into something closer to an always-updated information layer.

The shift also illustrates where some of the most practical opportunities in enterprise AI may emerge.

The most valuable applications are not necessarily the ones that produce the most impressive demonstrations. They may be the ones that take work that is repetitive, time-consuming and difficult to scale and make it substantially more efficient without removing the human judgment that the process still requires.

For the ESG industry, that could mean spending less time searching through documents and more time interpreting what the data actually means.

The technology is still evolving, and questions around accuracy, validation and oversight will remain important. But the direction is becoming clearer.

ESG runs on data. Increasingly, the question is whether AI can help organizations collect that data faster without losing the evidence and accountability that make it useful in the first place.

That may be the more consequential shift happening beneath the surface of the AI boom.

The current research analyzes the literature in the disciplines of psychology, sociology, and media studies to inquire into the relationship between the mental health of Generation Z women and their global citizenship. The essay claims that while global citizenship may elevate young women through social engagement and activism, it may additionally result in fatigue from empathy, cognitive overload, activism exhaustion, and climate anxiety. Professors and lawmakers must to understand this relationship in order to protect youth mental health and advance a global perspective.

Globalization has impacted how individuals think of how they fit in the world. Instead of only thinking of themselves as citizens of a particular country, adolescents are more and more viewing themselves as members of a global community. a viewpoint usually referred to as “global citizenship,” underlines how vital it is to realize how interconnected the world is and take responsibility for finding ways to address global problems including inequalities in society, climate change, and violations of the rights of people. (UNESCO, 2015). 
While this sort of interaction could promote participation and understanding, it frequently subjects adolescent people to disturbing contents.

In the past few years, the mental health has been the talk of the town, with then young’s people being affected by psychological issues. Despair, depression or call it anxiety are increasing within young people and adolescents, as per the research literature (Twenge et al., 2018; APA, 2020). Notably, it has seen that women are more prone to have mental health issue than men, and this can be because of many factors and societal expectation and gender roles can be one of them. The World Health Organization says anxiety and depression disorders are becoming increasingly prevalent among women than men (WHO, 2022).

This essay looks at how global citizenship affects the psychological wellness of Generation Z women.

The research paper explores how social media consumption and exposure, emotional involvement with issues around the world, and societal pressures contribute to psychological strain through an overview of multidisciplinary literature. 

Examination of the Literature on Global Citizenship and Youth Involvement

The knowledge and leaning of Global citizenship has become an important aspect of contemporary educational systems, as it is the need of the hour to get ourselves educated with the world around us, due to the rapid changes happening every minute, to the technology advancements, it has become more imperative in these days to be aware of everything, this is the pressure that comes with being a global citizen in today’s world.  Global citizenship, according to UNESCO (2015), involves cultivating a sense of belonging to a greater human society while vigorously advocating equitable treatment, ecological sustainability, and peace. 

These days, being a global citizen implies that you will have a better awareness of other cultures and, depending on your level of cognitive development, it will always affect the personality features of young people by making them more compassionate and civic-minded (Oxley & Morris, 2013). Contrary to this, the opponents claim that this is the result of exposure to a lot of information and being a global citizen of today’s world, which means that young adults feel responsible for trying to make things better in this world and overcoming the challenges of the modern world, as well as the pressure to do more every day, the fact that you are being forced into an area that you did not voluntarily enter, and the sincere belief that this is the source of all the mental stress observed in young individuals. The main cause of depression and all the mental health issues in young people is that they feel like they are lacking in time while others have succeeded and they are still stuck at their level, whether they are their 9–5 jobs or they have the regret of not choosing the right career after witnessing others change in their lives on social media. Due to their early exposure to the world’s knowledge, children who are exposed to violent content on nonsocial media are more likely to experience stress (Andreotti, 2014). 

Gaps in Mental Health Based on Gender

Research has repeatedly demonstrated that there are differences between genders or a gap in mental health outcomes. Women are drastically more likely than men to experience mental health issues like anxiety and depressive disorders (WHO, 2022). Research in the field of psychology has shown that women are more susceptible to having psychological issues than men because of several factors, including societal pressure, the biological clock that is ticking, as well as everything that modern society brutally bombards at a woman, making them the target of all such mental distress. Being a woman means you have to fight on many fronts. Research shows that women frequently linger on upsetting experiences, which may increase your vulnerability to depression. Females have the tendency to over-analyze any situation, which leads to over thinking and it increases the risk of mental distress (Nolen-Hoeksema, 2012). 

In addition, societal expectations often require women to be more empathetic and conscious of problems in society. Social collaboration requires empathy, yet increased emotional sensitivity may also raise a person’s vulnerability to psychological trauma.

Social Networks and Data Overload

Generation Z’s perspective on global citizenship is significantly shaped by social media. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X offer instant access to global news, political discussions, and campaigns of advocacy. 
Overload of data is one of the primary problems with consuming digital media, according to academics. People who get extra details than they can process are said to be suffering information overload, which can lead to stress and mental strain (Bawden & Robinson, 2009).

Emotional Distress and Empathy Fatigue 
The psychological weariness caused on by extended exposure to the misfortune and suffering of others is known as “compassion fatigue” (Figley, 1995). While the study initially focused on health care providers, experts now recognize that any person who is getting upsetting knowledge via news outlets might suffer similar repercussions. 
The young people could suffer from mental distress or emotional fatigue if they frequently come across about disputes or conflicts, natural disasters, and emergencies (Clayton, 2020). 
In addition, study suggest that youth who visit social media more regularly report increased levels of depression and anxiety (Twenge et al., 2018; Keles et al., 2020). 

Global Disasters and Environmental Concerns

One of the prime global concerns, that Generation Z has shown concerns about is climate change. A comprehensive worldwide poll by Hickman et al. (2021) found a lot of young people feel powerless, annoyed, and anxious about climate change. 
The study discovered that 59% of participants were highly concerned about impending environmental issues. Many felt a sense of despair about the government’s efforts to take on climate change.  Research demonstrates that young girls often show deeper emotional responsibility towards environmental problems, which may suggest broader gender differences in social responsibility and empathy (Clayton & Karazsia, 2020).

Discourse about the Emotional Cost of Global Awareness

It is highly encouraged to stay informed and take part in initiatives that deal with these issues considering the rapid rate at which the world is changing.  Although it can be mentally tiring, this promotes social responsibility and compassion. Nowadays, Generation Z women are staying ahead in every sector and are actively involved in numerous international campaigns. However, this has the inevitable consequence of exposing human beings in developing countries of the world to injustice, which may make them feel powerless in the face of serious issues like injustice, conflict, and climate change. Because these problems are frequently out of control, emotional anguish may worsen.

Social media’s impact on performative activism:

People today are given greater chances of expressing their opinions about public figures and societal problems because to the growth of performative activism on social media. Though this openness could foster knowledge and discourse, it likewise makes accessible for those who may not act responsibly online to take participate in these discussions. As a result, people who have been engaged on social media sites typically find themselves at the center of criticism and malicious remarks. The psychological well-being of activists and young people is often affected by this online criticism. People who voice out online may experience tremendous mental stress due to social media harassment, cyberbullying, and public backlash (Jane, 2017).

Identity Development and Activism-Related Exhaustion 
Formation of identities is crucial during teenage years and the initial years of adulthood. As an Generation Z women, building global citizenship to their sense of self presents challenges as well as opportunities. Social activism could promote leadership and autonomy, yet when sustained involvement with social issues causes mental fatigue, people may experience activism burnout (Gorski & Chen, 2015).

Global Citizenship’s Effects

Global citizenship could enhance psychological health despite having adverse effects as well. By becoming actively involved in campaigns and events for social causes, such a women’s day, can give young women a sense of meaning, direction, and community. Making connections with similar people enhances adaptability through collective activism and fortifies interpersonal support networks (Clayton, 2020). Therefore, it’s imperative to understand that global citizenship is a complex phenomenon with both advantages and disadvantages.

Conclusion

Young women who participate in global concerns using digital platforms, global citizenship has grown into an essential component of Generation Z identity. Although this participation fosters civic duty, compassionate thinking, and understanding of society, it can also exacerbate mental health issues including anxiety, apathy, and activism burnout. 
In an era that is becoming increasingly interrelated by the day, recognising the relationship between global citizenship and mental health is fundamental. To advance youth mental health, lawmakers and educational organisations must create impactful policies which foster balanced participation with worldwide issues. 
The next generation of women may be strengthened rather than burdened by global citizenship if societies support electronic literacy, provide mental health tools, promote collective activism.

With such an extensive and rich experience in financial services, Please tell us about your journey.

I started my career in financial services with First Capital Securities and worked for international firms ABN AMRO and Credit Agricole W.I.Carr also worked for Elixir Securities, and in 2004, Joined Foundation Securities. It is a group company of one the largest and reputable conglomerates of Pakistan, FaujiFoundation and subsidiary of the leading bank – Askari Bank.

What motivated you to take on the role of CEO at Foundation Securities, and what vision did you have for the company when you joined?

Securities was not simply a professional advancement, it was a challenging decision. After years of working across Pakistan’s financial market, serving international, institutional, retail and high net worth investors, and witnessing the transformative potential of digital finance, I felt a strong responsibility to steer company to the next phase of growth and transformation.

Foundation Securities represented a rare blend: the agility of a brokerage house and the institutional strength of the FaujiFoundation and Askari Bank. I saw an opportunity to modernize a trusted name Foundation Securities and brand FS EDGE and reposition it as a digitally driven, investor service-centric financial institution.

My vision from day one was clear: to work for ease of investment in Pakistan, empower the retail investor, elevate transparency, and build a platform where technology, research, and trust converge to create long-term value.

From its early days to now becoming a key player in Pakistan’s financial sector, how has Foundation Securities evolved over the years?

Foundation Securities has undergone a powerful transformation. What started as a conventional brick and mortar model brokerage firm has steadily grown into a full-fledged, technology-enabled leading and trusted market player.

We evolved in four major ways:

– Digitization of trading and client servicing.

– Strengthening research to support informed Investing. 

– Enhancing institutional credibility through governance and compliance. 

– Expanding our reach to younger, retail-focused audiences.

The Pakistan Stock Market is entering a promising phase. Despite macroeconomic cycles, corporate profitability remains strong, valuations are attractive, and investor confidence is gradually improving.

The future will be shaped by:

– Digital participation and mobile-driven trading

– Product diversification including ETFs and REITs.

Shot amid the marble symmetry and lush stillness of Shalimar Gardens, Makhfi draws upon the veiled verses of Princess Zeb-un-Nisa, daughter of Emperor Aurangzeb, whose pen name—Makhfi, meaning the hidden one—echoes through the campaign’s spirit.

Makhfi is a conversation between visibility and silence. It revisits the life of a woman whose genius bloomed behind curtains of restraint—a princess and poetess who wrote under the weight of expectation and anonymity. Through Mohsin Naveed Ranjha’s lens, her story is retold not through words, but through fabric: a visual meditation on what it means to be seen and unseen, to conceal and to reveal.

In every frame, Sadaf Kanwal embodies the paradox of Makhfi—a woman illuminated and yet shrouded, powerful in her stillness. In Zarlish, that architectural language finds form in design. The embroidery—delicate resham, tilla, and zari—flows like carved marble jaalis, tracing symmetry and rhythm across textiles. The palette drifts from muted ivories and rose dusts to regal crimsons, each shade recalling the transition from concealment to revelation. Layered dupattas and fluid silhouettes mirror the architectural grace of domes and courtyards—spaces built to both shelter and celebrate light.

The collection, though rooted in heritage, feels distinctly present. It carries within it the restraint of Mughal precision and the warmth of modern femininity—where craft is not nostalgia, but continuity.

Zarlish marks something more—a gesture of inclusivity. Conceived as the most accessible collection in Ranjha’s oeuvre, it brings couture sensibilities to the unstitched form, proving that craftsmanship and affordability can coexist. It is fashion democratized, not diminished; luxury redefined through empathy rather than exclusivity.

Pakistan’s public transit landscape has long been marred by overcrowding, harassment, and unreliable services. This is especially so in Karachi, a city where public transport often falls short – and is particularly risky for women commuters. Recognizing the need for reliable and safe public transport, BusCaro founder and CEO Maha Shahzad sought to redefine Pakistan’s urban mobility, steering it towards a safer, smarter, and more sustainable future. 

An industry veteran, Maha is no stranger to the challenges of mobility technology. Having held leadership roles at industry giants such as Careem, Swvl, Airlift, and Foodpanda – and most recently at Swvl Pakistan as General Manager – Maha has 15 years of experience in the area of Pakistani mobilty and urban transport. In mid-2022, she decided to use that experience to launch BusCaro – a mobility platform which aims to tackle Pakistan’s commuter crisis head-on. 

A Model Rooted in Safety & Affordability

Drawing from lessons learnt in past roles at Swvl and Airlift, Maha designed BusCaro to follow a resilient and socially-conscious model. This approach focused on asset-light partnerships with local minivan, minibus, and bus operators, pre-booked routes through schools, factories, offices, and universities; and special attention given to safety-first features, including thorough background checks of drivers, ‘panic buttons’, live tracking, and anonymous passenger IDs. The live tracking feature has proven especially relevant for women passengers, with one student commuter saying, “BusCaro is like a private van service. Clean, on time, and even allowing my parents to track my live location.”

Proven Impact & Rapid Growth

Under Maha’s stewardship, BusCaro has already scaled to three cities and has managed to secure over 18 million bookings across the country. Since its launch in Karachi in 2022, the mobility start-up has already grown to secure more than 35,000 bookings per day across Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. The company has also leveraged Maha’s industry experience, providing mobility solutions to major organisations, including Foodpanda, PepsiCo, Ibex, Indus Hospital, and Style Textile. During this time, Maha has also ensured a continued focus on sustainability, helping reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 8 million kg annually. Interestingly, 70% of BusCaro users are women and chidren.

Leading with Purpose 

Maha has been recognized amongst the top ten women in mobility in the world. She also competed against more than 200 startups on the renowned show Meet the Drapers, and went on to win the episode for Pakistan. She has brought this global perspective to the benefit of Pakistani entrepreneurs and startups, acting as a mentor and judge at She Loves Tech, Standard Chartered Bank’s Women in Tech initiativ, and also mentors aspiring entrepreneurs as part of ARY’s upcoming show Bazaar powered by Paklaunch.
