Woman wants her wedding dress made out of late mother’s hair!

A bride-to-be is looking for a designer who can – and is willing to – craft a wedding dress using her dead mother’s hair.

The anonymous woman posted the unusual request on fashion manufacturing website Sewport and revealed in the advertisement that she started collecting her mum’s hair for four years prior to her death in August.

The 61-year-old also adds that she is prepared to pay £15,000 for a replica of her late mother’s wedding gown.

The Bristol-based bride wrote, “I’m looking for someone to recreate my mother’s wedding dress from 1953, which she wore when she married my father. My mother passed away recently and I’d like to create a special memento of her life.”

The woman later reveals that she began to collect her mother’s hair when she fell ill back in 2014 and admits that her request is “quite weird”. However, she hopes to have the completed garment in time for the anniversary of her mum’s death next August.

Alongside the post, the woman also included sketches of the dress she would like for her big day and the ballroom-style gown features her mother’s hair sewn into the sleeves and hem.

Although it is admittedly a rare request in 2018, it was common practice for Victorian mourners to wear jewellery containing a lock of hair from a dead relative.

So far, no dressmaker has volunteered for the role.
