4. Dark Tourist

Most tourists like to visit popular sites and attractions, like beaches, stadiums and museums, while on vacation. There is a subset of tourism, however, that involves visiting places that are historically associated with death and tragedy. Journalist David Farrier focuses on that area of travel, known as dark tourism, in this docuseries. In each episode, Farrier travels to a different locale to visit destinations and have experiences that wouldn’t be on most vacationers’ bucket lists. He embeds himself in a death-worshiping cult in Mexico, sees tourists soaking up radiation left behind in Fukushima, and meets vampires.

5. The Rain: Season 1

The world as we know it has come to an end, due to a rain-carried virus that wiped out nearly everybody in Scandinavia. Six years after that event, two Danish siblings emerge from the safety of the bunker where they have been staying. After discovering all remnants of civilization gone, they join a group of fellow young survivors, and together they head out on a danger-filled quest throughout the abandoned land in search of signs of life.

6. Lost In Space

Given the number or reboots going on at the moment, it’s almost a welcome relief that one is coming of a show that hasn’t been touched (we refuse to count the abysmal 1998 film adaptation) for half a century – meaning that only your grandparents are likely to complain that it’s not as good as before. The kitschy, campy Sixties sci-fi classic about the Robinson family of space colonists gets a modern update, which will likely strip it of the original’s near-comedic innocence. If done well, this could follow in the footsteps of Battlestar Galactica, which was remade into TV gold.

7. Happy!

Happy! Is an American fantasy black comedy crime television series based on the four-issue comic book series of the same name created by writer Grant…
