I am proud to be a Muslim, says Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid has recently claimed her identity as a Muslim in an interview with a well-known magazine.

Hadid, Palestinian-American fashion model, told in an interview that her father Mohammad Hadid raised her and her siblings with the teaching of Islam as an important part of their lives.

“He was always religious, and he always prayed with us,” Hadid said. “I am proud to be a Muslim.” She added.

It has also been revealed from this interview that Hadid’s father was a refugee. When Trump banned Muslims and refugees from entering U.S., Hadid and her family weren’t afraid to show their opposition.

“My dad was a refugee when he first came to America, it’s actually very close to home for my sister and brother and me,” Hadid said in an interview.

However, Hadid’s father moved to Syria after fleeing Palestine when he was just 18 months old. His family eventually resettled in Jordan before moving to the U.S. when he was only 18. Her father then became an Olympic athlete, representing Jordan at Winter Olympics 1992.

In February 2017, Hadid, her sister Gigi, mother and few friends marched in a protest in downtown New York against Trump’s immigration ban, which carried a sign that said: “We are all humans.”

After the protest, Hadid said: “We shouldn’t treat people as if they don’t deserve kindness just because of their ethnicity.”
