Sonakshi’s Noor and Raveena’s Maatr are winners at the box office

Sonakshi Sinha’s Noor is based on Pakistani author Saba Imtiaz’s novel Karachi, You’re Killing Me!, the story revolves around a female journalist who is perennially annoyed with her clumsiness, lack of love life and a demanding profession.

The character of an accident-prone journalist in Noor is a marked shift in direction for Sinha, “It was an absolutely refreshing change to play an everyday girl who wants to achieve a lot in life. “I happy that my characters in films like Akira, Force 2 and the soon to be released Ittefaq allowed me to go to different zones as an actor. It’s a validation for an actor like me,” Sonakshi said.

Whereas Raveena Tandon’s Maatr is about a mother and daughter who get raped in an isolated area near New Delhi. Since one of the main conspirators is the prime minister’s son, the mother resorts to unlawful ways to avenge her daughter’s murder.

Tandon is making a comeback after her cameo in Anurag Kashyap’s 2015 crime thriller Bombay Velvet. In her 26-year career she has had a string of hits.
