Taron Egerton shuts down those Wolverine rumors as he jokes he needs ‘better beard game’

When making an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con, on Saturday, MTV couldn’t help but quiz the Rocketman star over the speculation. However, it seems as though it’s all just talk – at the moment, anyway – as the 29-year-old joked he’d need ‘better beard game.’ Chatting to the publication, he laughed: ‘I think you need better beard game for Wolverine than I have.’ Oh, Taron. ‘Look, there’s no grounding for the rumor,’ he insisted: ‘I know that that’s probably in the pipeline at some point for Marvel but I would imagine it’s a little way off.’ The star went on: ‘If I was asked it would be incredible, but… I have to confess, I think sometimes there are better candidates.’

Pausing for a second, the actor joked: ‘Or actually, you know, who knows, if it was in five years maybe I would be grizzly enough. ‘I’m a great admirer of those films and it’s very, very flattering to have even been mentioned.’ Earlier this month, rumors started to circulate that Taron would be taking over from Hugh Jackman when Mark randomly threw his name into the mix. Yes, out of the blue, the 49-year-old responded to a fan on Twitter who suggested he ‘predicted’ the future in a 2002 comic panel that featured a Samuel L Jackson-esque Nick Fury and a reference to future Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. He said he would need a better beard game (Picture: Rex) The star has worked with Mark Millar before on Kingsman (Picture: Rex) In his response, the writer said: ‘From 2002. Always remember I’m never wrong. PS Taron Egerton will be the next Wolverine :).’ Mark has worked with the star before on the movies Kingsman: The Secret Service and its sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle – which are the film adaptations of his comic books. And it sounds as though Taron will be returning to the role, as director Matthew Vaughn recently teased the next installment of the much-loved spy movie. When talking to Digital Spy, he said: ‘We’ve got to finish off the Eggsy and Harry relationship
