‘The Vampire Diaries’ cast says emotional goodbye to the Mystic Falls!

After eight years of heartbreak, frustrating romantic developments and mysticism, the celebrated CW drama has finally come to an end after shooting 8 seasons and over 100 episodes on  Wednesday night (February 9). The cast and crew celebrated the bittersweet occasion with cake, booze, and plenty of tears.

No one seemed really prepared for the end of ‘The Vampire Diaries,” not even its cast. They had their own way of dealing with the pain. After finishing the last day of shooting, they all went to social media to mend their broken hearts.

As we look back on some of the cast and crew’s final memories from that last day on set, just remember: television shows may be temporary, but memories are forever.

Paul Wesley shared a photo on Instagram, captioning it: “That’s officially a wrap. One last pic of the brothers in front of the Camaro. To the fans, thank you for being a part of this journey in our lives. We couldn’t have done it without you.”

Feeling nostalgic?

Ian Somerhalder took to Facebook to live-stream from the Atlanta set.

Somerhalder had several Facebook live chat sessions with fans throughout the night, the last of which ended with him stepping in front of the camera for his last set of takes. “Here we go,” he said. “Last scene ever.”

Nina Dobrev was probably the most emotional one among the whole cast, who wrote a long heartfelt message to her fans. “This is my true final goodbye, as today I shot my last scene of the Vampire Diaries forever. Coming back for the series finale has been a whirlwind of emotion, nostalgia, love, tears of joy and bittersweet endings.”

“It feels like the beautiful closure we all needed, myself included, and I couldn’t have been happier to come home to be with my TVD set family and friends,” she added.

Executive producer Julie Plec captured the emotion that immediately followed — and the massive cake:

Kat Graham wrapped earlier that morning but shared a fantastic fan video to celebrate the one and only Bonnie Bennett moment:

And Matt Davis gave fans a short message before filming his very last scene as Alaric:

Getting ready for my last shot… Love you guys!!!
