Singer-turned-Union minister Babul Supriyo had said Rahat’s voice in the song must be removed and dubbed by someone else as he was not able to comprehend the need or desire to cross the border for entertainment content at a time when tensions on the India-Pakistan border had escalated.

However according to Director Chakri Toleti, who has helmed the forthcoming film Welcome To New York, says the makers are yet to decide whether to accept the suggestion of singer-turned-minister Babul Supriyo’s demand to remove Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice from the film’s song Ishtehaar or keep it.

“No decision has been taken on the Rahat Fateh Ali Khan song. I don’t understand why we are being targeted like this. Our film ‘Welcome To New York’ releases this Friday and this is just too much stress. We have made an entertaining film and we don’t want to hurt anyone,” Toleti said in a statement.

Composer Shamir Tandon has defended the use of his voice in the film.

Rahat has been singing for Bollywood films since 2003. He has delivered many hits like “Mann ki lagan”, “Jiya dhadak dhadak”, “Bol na halke halke” and “O re piya”.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was all set to perform in India in November, but at the last moment, organisers started having second thoughts and reconsidered inviting him over.

A source from the organising team told Times of India,

“It’s impossible to hold big concerts in the malls during the festive season because there are a number of other activities happening. So we had deferred the concerts to November. But now, in the current political climate, it would be unwise to have Pakistani artists performing here. So we are looking for other options.“

The organisers had specifically planned to bring Rahat over as he has never performed in Noida, India and the build-up to his concert would have been big.”

Seems like, Rahat fans in India will have to wait for a better time.
