According to a senior officer, you cannot eat, smoke, or even apply makeup, neither can you fix your scarf or read while driving. Or else, it would get you fined up to AED800 and also you would be given four black points.

Motorists get easily distracted by their mobile phones, according to General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, head of the UAE Federal Traffic Council. This is the reason this new traffic law has been introduced.

The police can now officially fine drivers for the mentioned offences starting from July 1st.

Women putting on makeup while driving, taking selfies or doing anything that’s distracting them could be fined too.
