I started my career in financial services with First Capital Securities and worked for international firms ABN AMRO and Credit Agricole W.I.Carr also worked for Elixir Securities, and in 2004, Joined Foundation Securities. It is a group company of one the largest and reputable conglomerates of Pakistan, FaujiFoundation and subsidiary of the leading bank – Askari Bank.

What motivated you to take on the role of CEO at Foundation Securities, and what vision did you have for the company when you joined?

Securities was not simply a professional advancement, it was a challenging decision. After years of working across Pakistan’s financial market, serving international, institutional, retail and high net worth investors, and witnessing the transformative potential of digital finance, I felt a strong responsibility to steer company to the next phase of growth and transformation.

A: Unlike now, success was harder to achieve when we were younger. This digital age that’s unfolding every day before us has made everything easy and accessible. Be it resources, information, education, various real-time experiences and most importantly, business. The world is now at your fingertips, all you need to do is use your time wisely to turn your ideas into reality.

All we had back in my time were big dreams and the will to chase them until we made it.

I started working on my dream early on – after completing my bachelors, in 2004 I began running our family’s real estate business which was established in 1984 by my father. I feel very lucky to have had valuable exposure to different facets of business dealings with his guidance. That’s what prepared me to face the challenges I faced when I was in the process of expanding our family business and crafting the identity that it has today as ‘Earthlink’.

As for becoming one of the best in the real estate industry – well, the formula is simple, and I merely followed this formula. First and foremost, to be successful one must be true to themselves and their work. Secondly, one must make bold decisions and take calculated risks when required. And thirdly, it’s imperative that you value each and every team member and their input, understand the importance of keeping them motivated and happy as there’s no success to be achieved alone. If your team knows that their efforts will be rewarded, there is no mountain high enough that they won’t climb for you.

Q 2: Where did the idea & name of Earthlink come from? How did you start this venture?

A: Every business has an interesting story connected to its inception, and so does ‘Earthlink’. It is a name that’s more or less self-explanatory. Our business is solely dependent on everything related the grit of the earth, but we have also successfully linked it with technology to create a seamless experience for our target audience, from becoming aware of our brand to benefitting from what we have to offer.

The beginning of my real estate career with Earthlink was totally serendipitous. I joined my family business while doing my engineering assignments because I had a degree in software engineering. I got an idea – to combine business with technology and so I made a website and turned it into a real estate business, which proved to be successful. I haven’t looked back since.

Q 3: What’s your company’s vision?

A: Earthlink’s vision goes beyond blueprints, bricks and mortar. I want the company to soar high above the rest and I wish to see our identity become synonymous with excellence in concept, design, quality, customer service and satisfaction.
I want Earthlink to become a truly glocal brand and see Earthlink grow into a name that resonates with people around the world, wherever we set up our business. A glocal marketing strategy is employed by global brands to adapt to local needs, and that’s what we want to do as well. We’re building a base to gradually start working on making this happen, and with hard work and undivided focus, God willing our vision will become a reality.

Q 4: Which project would you call as your company’s turning point?

A: The idea of the project that propelled Earthlink towards success came to me in a café in Spain back in 2010. Surrounded by art, architecture and a language different than what we’re familiar with, I got inspired to come up with the name ‘The Grandé’ for one of our projects. The idea behind it was to deliver unmatched quality, expert craftsmanship, flawless architecture, and an experience to remember. The Grandé rapidly gained popularity and became Earthlink’s masterbrand due to its grandeur and the high-quality lifestyle that the brand is associated with.

Q 5: What do you think are the vital points for client satisfaction?

A: To achieve client satisfaction the most important thing for a builder to be mindful of, is that the quality delivered to the client should be exactly what was committed to them. And not only that, a builder should strive to deliver a better project than the client expects, because when you exceed expectations, you win over the client’s trust and build a long-lasting relationship with them.

Q 6: Owing to the pandemic how do you think it has affected real estate business?

A: If anything, the pandemic has made people more conscious of life’s uncertainties, and has taught them to be prepared for the future. As a result, the real estate business has grown during the pandemic, as properties are more in demand because Pakistanis believe that the most valuable asset that never depreciates is property. With all the risk-factors involved, real estate gives its owners peace of mind and a feeling of security.

Q 7: Do you think our real estate sector has met with the international standards?

A: There’s a lot to be done in the Pakistani real estate industry in order to meet international standards, so no, I don’t think we’re there yet because our exposure to international market is very limited as of now. But that doesn’t mean we’re far off. We’re hopeful that we’ll be on par with the international real estate community soon as Pakistan’s economy is gradually witnessing growth, and currently our market needs a lot of international-level exposure and has a lot to learn. In my opinion, a few years down the line we will see our growth in international arenas as well. As part of my future plan for Earthlink, we too, are planning on making that happen.

Q 8: Tell us about your experience working with Bahria Town?

A: Just as in the past, all major brands and companies gained popularity as a result of their unusual approach to business ideas and having an unorthodox culture, Bahria Town too, is an organisation that has become what it is today because of its unorthodox ideas and attention to the minutest details. This idea of theirs, to be an avant-garde brand – has led them to exponential growth, allowing their business partners to grow as well.
Working with Bahria Town, I would say, has been a phenomenal adventure and being an organisation that takes on challenges head on, Bahria Town has given us remarkable opportunities to fulfill challenges of our own too. This is the kind of experience a sizeable real estate business as ours should enjoy in their career.
Rather than following conventional norms, Bahria Town has been a great influence in helping us grow in the industry.

Q 9: How supportive is the government towards the real estate industry? 

A: The current government policies regarding the real estate sector indicate a better future for the industry, but whether these policies will be adhered to properly remains to be seen. Only time will tell. The government has in its hands the mammoth task to do so much more by educating, regulating, and implementing licensing in the real estate sector.
Although these factors I mentioned bring the government an opportunity to work on them by following innovative solutions, it that won’t help the real estate industry at large if the ultimate target to elevate the whole fraternity is not achieved.

Q 10: You have a vast clientele how do you maintain a balance and manage to meet the expected standards? 

A: Managing the clientele totally depends on how much value you give them even after you’ve achieved your goal of selling them a property. At Earthlink, regardlees of the size of their investment our clients feel taken care of and they trust each and every advice we give them, as they have seen results and have benefitted from them.

As for meeting expected standards – as I mentioned before, at Earthlink we don’t just meet expectations, we exceed them every time we deliver a property. That’s the only way to retain happy clients and build a strong relationship with them.

Q 11: What are the future prospects of Earthlink?

A: We want our clients to think of Earthlink on a level where they consider investing with us as they would invest in the capital market. And in the years to come, we would like to see Earthlink in Pakistan’s national index, being created as a result of public offering.

What inspired you to start Makeup by Wardah Usmani, and how has the journey been so far?

Okay, so I’ve loved doing makeup for as long as I can remember. I was always doing it at my friends’ weddings, and I was that designated makeup artist friend, you know? But I never thought of pursuing it as a career because I was never confident enough. When I did my own wedding makeup, my husband kind of pushed me to start my page. He encouraged me to set this up and was like, “What’s the worst that could happen?” | thought to myself, yeah, he’s right, you know? So I set it up, and I never looked back. The journey has been great so far. My clients are all amazing. I’m doing what I love for a living, and I don’t think it gets better than that.

How do you ensure your makeup services stand out in a competitive market?

So yeah, the market is super competitive. I started back when I was in Pakistan, and I’ve moved to Toronto now. I feel like when I was starting out, I was catering to people like myself who did not want makeup that was too heavy. Even as a bride, I felt that I wanted to look more like myself. So I stuck to what I knew, stuck to what I liked, and basically, that’s what I try to do even for my clients. How I set myself apart is from the minute a bride walks into my studio for her consultation to the time that we’re done and she’s leaving as a bride, I really try to take into account what she wants because doing makeup is very personal. I know what I like on my face, and you know what you like on your face. So me telling you what you should like is something that I don’t believe in. So that’s basically my mantra for how I work, and I think that’s what sets me apart. Apart from that, I do subtle bridal makeup. It’s very Pakistani style, a little modern, and not too much. But yeah, I think that’s how l set myself apart.

What’s your signature makeup style, and how do you tailor it to suit different clients?

So initially, when I started, it was a little bit challenging because I thought that if I know one thing, I can copy-paste it on different clients. But over time, I’ve realized that if two eyes are different shapes, there’s no way that one makeup look will look amazing on both of them. What I’m trying to do is make you look like the best version of yourself, so my style is more on the natural, glowy side, where I’m trying to enhance your features and not change them. So I cannot copy and paste one look onto a different bride. When the clientscome to me for the consultation and the trial, we try out different things. I’ll show her the eye look with glitter, without glitter. I’ll show her a matte eye. I’ll try thickening the eye shades. Even I can’t know what would look amazing on you until we’ve tried it out, especially for the eyes, right? So yeah, that’s how we try to bring out the best version of you on your wedding day. It’s a collaborative effort between me and my brides, and it’s been working so far.

How do you balance creativity and client preferences when working on a look?

That’s a hard question because that is something that will always be a struggle. I feel like I’m more inclined towards client preferences, which is why none of my looks are the same. If you go through all of my work, it’s very client-centered. I do take into account what they’re saying. So when they walk into a consult with me, at first, a bride will have an eye look trial in which we play around with eye looks, eye shades, the thickness of the liner, and the thickness of the lashes. In that trial, I basically try to pen down everything the client is telling me, and I try talking her out of things that I think won’t work or are not very, you know, in line with current trends.

So it’s a conversation. Even after I give my suggestions, if the bride says that she wants to stick to her guns, of course, I listen to her because, again, having makeup on your face is super, super personal. I cannot tell you what you will feel most confident in. What I’m trying to say, basically, is that even if you tell me you want something crazy, I can make it work. You know, like if you want to go five tones lighter, that’s not what I like, but at the end of the day, you’ll still look like a pretty version of yourself.

As a business owner, what challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?

Okay, so I think every business owner, every single one-man-show business, faces a lot of struggles in the beginning and is juggling with things you have no idea about, especially when it’s a one-man show and you yourself are the brand. There’s not a lot of room to make mistakes, even when you’re growing and you don’t know what you’re doing yourself. Making sure that everybody who comes in and walks out the door is happy is a very, very big challenge because there are so many things that you have to cater to. You are not only taking responsibility for doing their makeup, it’s their experience. It’s what you say, how you look, how you made them feel, and how your assistants made them feel on the day of their wedding. You know, it all has to be a positive experience because, at the end of the day, you are starting, and you are spending so much time with a bride. If she doesn’t leave happy, it’s like a domino effect, you’re ruining her mood, and everything from there goes south.

So there’s a lot of that. You have to be very empathetic.You have to be very conscious of everything. Setting myself apart as a makeup artist who serves the client’s preferences and doesn’t just tell them what they want has also been a very big challenge. Making sure that every client leaves happy takes a lot, and I think that’s what sets me apart and is my biggest challenge.

What trends in makeup excite you the most, and how do you incorporate them into your work?

There’s a lot of, you know, having a new canvas to work on itself that is super, super exciting. But the trends that excite me the most, I guess, are super dewy and minimal makeup with, you know, just a polished look, like very celebrity-esque. We’re talking Bollywood, we’re talking Alia Bhatt. Those kinds of trends are amazing. Like, I love what is now. Were out with the dramatic eyes; we’re more soft, and we’re accepting who we are, we’re accepting our skin tones. I’m all for that. That’s exciting.How do you stay updated on the latest beauty trends and techniques?I think with social media and trends being so global these days, it’s so easy to know what’s going on where. There are a few makeup artists I look up to a lot. There’s Yasmin Khan in Pakistan. There are many makeup artists that I admire. Staying up to date is really easy with social media now, you know what’s happening.

What’s your advice for aspiring makeup artists looking to enter the beauty industry?

It’s cutthroat out here. But no, I feel that my biggest advice would be to find your niche and stick to it.Not your style, find your niche and stick to it. You will attract customers who are like yourself. People can really see, and your work really speaks for itself. So just keep your head down, keep working. Somebody actually gave me this advice when I started: just keep your head down, keep working, and be open to constructive criticism. Be really open to criticism, especially when it comes from your brides, from your clients. I feel like criticism taken constructively is the best gift you could give to yourself. Otherwise, this job would be too hard. Any job in the service industry would be too hard.

The purpose of initiating the ‘Learn to Burn’ Program was not merely to provide Consultation Programs based on the Trifecta mentioned Earlier; rather, it was to equip the Members of the Program with Knowledge and Guidance which was both Correct and Adequate to Burn not just Phyiscal Excess, but the Negativity and Incorrect concepts and Beliefs of the Mindset as well, as this apparently ‘Meta-Physical’ aspect of the Human Being is given due Importance by our Team at Pakfit.

You’ve trained over 50,000 clients. How has that journey been for you, and what key lessons have you learned?

It has been a wonderful Journey consulting over 50,000+ clients, to be able to Help people from all Walks of life, and helping people in their Wellness and Fitness Goals is an Honor that I am blessed with the Almighty. As for the Lessons: In the start it was a bit difficult to fill up the gap of misguidance there was earlier in the industry created by the Fitness Professionals themselves by disregarding either the psychlogical or dietary or physical aspect of the Human Being. Fitness was made so difficult, and that too un-necessarily, to an extent that Most of the People considered to remain unfit. After few months in the Industry, I realized that if the current societal factors are taken into consideration there would be a very Big segment of the Society that would remain Unfit just because tha Mainstream of the Industry does not accomodate their Concerns, and thats when We introduced the Concept of NEAT -Non-Exercise-Activity-Thermogenesis-in the Industry, i.e If the non-exercise activities (e.g. Walking, talking, doing House chores) of an Individual is regulated in a correct manner, there is no need of rigorous Physical Training, Premium Gym Memberships and other phenomenons of this sort.Secondly, One of the biggest realization that I came to know was tha the root cause of many of the problems in the Society is caused by the Unfit Individual, and not just Physical inadequacy of Fitness; but, the Emotional and Pychological as well, and that is when we decided that in the pursuit of solving the Bigger Problems of the Society we must use Our Programs as a Catalyst and Use our Influence wisely.

How do you balance your career between being a fitness consultant and a model for TVcommercials?

After being in the Media Industry for 5+ years, and leading The Media Campaigns for the Biggest names of Pakistan from the front, I came to the Conclusion that not only am I using my given potential to solve the Big problems of the Society, but helping them get bigger by not solving them when I can; and, secondly because of the consideration of the fact that there are numerous variables in the Industry that Directly Contradict the Commandements of the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, and the Way of his Prophet (May Peace and Blessings be Upon Him). I am Still offered Leadings Roles From the Big Names of Pakistan, but the service I am doing to the Humanity through Pakfit is incomparable to that what I am offered by the Media Industry.

How do you see the future of fitness and wellness in Pakistan, and what challenges do you think the industry will face?

The Past was not very Good because of the Blissful Ignorance of the Knowledge of Fitness that the Proffessionals of the Industry had, except for a few; but, since the Inception of Pakfit and the Vision and approach that we are carrying forward has changed the landscape of the Industry since we have introduced such pathways which are convinient as well as affordable for all the segments of the Society, with a reach of 30 million+ in the last 8 years, All praises to the Almighty. As for the Challenges, they are what an Unfit person presents the Society with, Inconsistency, Lethargy, lack of motivation and countless others. I still do think that there is a Gap in the Market to be filled, for which we are hopeful, and working towards taking the message of Pakfit the Next level starting with conducting the First and Biggest Fitness Expo in the History of Pakistan, followed by Fitness Seminars in all the Big Cities of Pakistan, and then taking this movement of ours to the MENA region in the next stage of our strategy with God’s Will.You started your first startup, Savyour, at the age of 22. What inspired you, and how did you grow it to raise $200,000?The story and the Inspiration of my First Entreprenurial Venture would require numerous pages; but, in short when I first ideated the Concept of SavYour in my head on a casual sitting at my rooftop, the Concept and My passion to solve the problem for the Society really inspired, and the fact the there was a very Big Gap in the FinTech Industry at that time really thrilled me to fill the Gap, and my passion for Problem-solving led me to Partner up with a Very Successful Multi-National, to which I ended up solding the Company to within 7-8 months after its Inception. I personally think from my experience of My first Entreprenurial Venture that Growth is in Pressure and Risk, and that One can achieve anything in this Realm if he dedicate his or her self to it completely, and give Enough Focus and Hardwork.

The Advice I would give to the people dealing with Stress and Depression, or any disease or concern for that matter would be to first Identify their meaning of Life, for what they are created and the nature of this Reality, and for that We will have to navigating to the Creator of our Beings, as one turns to the manufacturer of a product to fully understand the use of a Product, and as explained very elaborately in the Corpus of Islam the Biggest reality of this Realm is Death; Everything will face its end ultimately, and the moment one realizes the magnitude of this world to the Hereafter, his concerns and Stress Vanish away

My early childhood was quite similar to all the other kids, busy playing games on the streets and flying kites.Whereas, after becoming a doctor, I went for specialization in cardiac surgery. After doing my graduation in medicine and surgery I went to US and opened six high end luxury diamond stores, amid which I came back to Pakistan and opened Diamond Direct a beautiful store on a beautiful location in Lahore. I chose to invest in this field because jewels never get rotten, neither is it going to go lose its value.And if you need money for your rainydays you can always sell your gold & gems and cash it out.

2. From patients to diamonds how has the transition been?

There was a major turning point in my life in the year 2017 when I got diagnosed with fourth stage colon cancer, it was an extremely horrifying time of my life. Going through a lot of chemo-therapies, surgeries, and radiations, but I did not give up and kept on working as an investor and a business advisor and took care of my stores. It was the biggest test on my faith but all the pain that I felt on my body and soul strengthened me, it gave me much more strength as a human and made me a much stronger person that I am now. As the saying goes, “you are going to hit the worst time when God is planning to elevate you to another level”So, it actually became true for me. Fighting this battle was one of the toughest times for me but I finally got out of it. I have been awarded with the most inspiring personality in the jewelry industry in United States.All the diamonds that we have at our outlet in Lahore are certified and imported from USA. We have a location here in Lahore and in a month or two and we are opening our outlet in Islamabad as well, we also have offices in Dubai and Hong Kong, we also have stores in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. All our stores are the most followed stores in the southeast region which is another blessing.

3. Tell us about your achievements?

As I mentioned earlier that I was awarded with the most inspiring personality of the year in the jewellery industry in USA, hence I feel blessed to be awarded with this honor out of 50,000 jewelry stores all across US. I believe. I alone do not deserve the credit, this achievement is based on my team and their hard work, of course, I was guiding them, I was giving them ideas, but they were the main strength. We also won the Wedding Wire awards consecutively from 2017 to 2023. Having said that, all my stores are award winning stores in the Wedding Wire.

4.Where does Diamond Direct luxury import its diamonds from?

All my merchandise is imported from USA, all the diamonds that we have are from the US, all our brands are affiliated and certified and not even a one single ring is from any other country. The bottom line is, all the merchandise that I carry are from USA.

5. How Beneficial is it investing in Diamonds?

Investment in diamonds is much more of a common trend now, having said that, of course, gold has always been a good investment whereas, I do believe diamond is taking over. We have a vast variety of diamonds starting from 0.20 carat to almost 8 carat. I assure you no one can beat our prices because we are the wholesalers and not retailers. And I challenge that no one can beat our prices, we are the first ones to bring in yellow diamonds. We have all different kinds of bracelets, earring, rings and solitaires, in yellow diamonds that definitely carries more value than the regular diamonds. Hence, to sum up diamonds are the best investment opportunity for people who believe in investing and securing their money.
