Weekend exercise may just be better than daily workouts: Study

According to a recent research, people who are found more active in exercising on weekends mainly may just reap significant health and fitness benefits, comparative to the people who work out on a regular basis.

Presently, experts recommend a total time of 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week.

However, no exact limit has been studied or figured out till date as to how many hours/minutes should an individual need to exercise and whether one should exercise daily or not, for a physically fit and healthy body.

The research was extracted from the findings in the ‘Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Internal Medicine’, which indicated that people who rush their exercise routine into one or two days of the week — known as the “weekend warriors” — have a lower risk of dying in comaprison to those who exercise three times a week or more.

Senior author Emmanuel Stamatakis – Associate Professor at the University of Sydney said, “It is very encouraging news that being physically active on just one or two occasions per week is associated with a lower risk of death, even among people who do some activity but don’t quite meet recommended exercise levels.”

“However, for optimal health benefits from physical activity it is always advisable to meet and exceed the physical activity recommendations.”
