Ed was made a member of the Order of the British Empire and received the award – a special medal from Prince Charles at London’s Buckingham Palace.
Sheeran took to Instagram to share pictures from the ceremony, and wrote, “Honored to be awarded an MBE today at Buckingham Palace”
He then shared another picture with Prince of Whales when he met the Perfect singer.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Sheeran said his late grandfather would have been pleased with his honour.
“My grandfather was a massive royalist,” he told the BBC. “He had all the commemorative plates and stuff, and he died on this day four years ago, so it’s actually quite a nice full circle thing, I guess he’d be pretty proud.”
