Farhan Akhtar’s sensible comment on the ban of Pakistani artists in India

In a recent interview with a leading Indian state news channel, Farhan Akhtar who is focused on the promotion of ‘Rock On 2’ was questioned to comment on India’s cultural exchange with Pakistan in the current climate of hostility, especially after the recent controversies Farhan had to deal, with the release of ‘Raees’.

Fahran said, “It’s very unfortunate that things have come to this place. I think we should start from there. I think all of us over time, may be at keen moments, should have spoken up but didn’t and our silence has empowered people to just keep pushing their agenda forward and it’s on both sides.”

He further added, “I think as people and government, we need to decide who is it we want to please – we want to please the radical aspect of the other side? They would want us to cut all ties with their country because it suits them. If we want to please them, then let’s do it but there are so many people like us here today who also exist in our neighbouring countries, who want peace, who want open trade cultural exchange. Let’s focus on pleasing them, empowering them. Let’s allow them to also speak out in their society and I think that’s the decision that needs to be taken.”
