Bhatt’s family had been receiving threat calls from an unidentified caller demanding a sum of Rs 50 lacs. The police registered an FIR late on Wednesday night, and recorded a statement.
According to Bhatt family, the caller said that if his instructions weren’t followed, he would kill the director’s wife Soni & daughter, Alia.
His exact words were: “If you fail to do so, I will fire several rounds of bullets in your daughter Alia and wife Soni.” He further continued to send a few more messages, after which he stopped. Bhatt initially thought that it was a prank as the caller asked him to deposit the money in a Lucknow-based bank branch.
Since his wife’s and daughter’s lives were in danger, Mahesh Bhatt without thinking further decided to inform the cops. The case was then transferred to the Mumbai Police’s Anti Extortion Cell (ANC).
However, the accused has been arrested by the UP police & interrogations are currently in process. It looks like the Bhatt family started getting death threats after the news of him supporting Pakistani actors started taking rounds.
