Leadership. Strategy. Market Vision. Syed Ahmed Zaidi, CEO – Foundation Securities

With such an extensive and rich experience in financial services, Please tell us about your journey.

I started my career in financial services with First Capital Securities and worked for international firms ABN AMRO and Credit Agricole W.I.Carr also worked for Elixir Securities, and in 2004, Joined Foundation Securities. It is a group company of one the largest and reputable conglomerates of Pakistan, FaujiFoundation and subsidiary of the leading bank – Askari Bank.

What motivated you to take on the role of CEO at Foundation Securities, and what vision did you have for the company when you joined?

Stepping into the role of CEO at Foundation

Securities was not simply a professional advancement, it was a challenging decision. After years of working across Pakistan’s financial market, serving international, institutional, retail and high net worth investors, and witnessing the transformative potential of digital finance, I felt a strong responsibility to steer company to the next phase of growth and transformation.

Foundation Securities represented a rare blend: the agility of a brokerage house and the institutional strength of the FaujiFoundation and Askari Bank. I saw an opportunity to modernize a trusted name Foundation Securities and brand FS EDGE and reposition it as a digitally driven, investor service-centric financial institution.

My vision from day one was clear: to work for ease of investment in Pakistan, empower the retail investor, elevate transparency, and build a platform where technology, research, and trust converge to create long-term value.

From its early days to now becoming a key player in Pakistan’s financial sector, how has Foundation Securities evolved over the years?

Foundation Securities has undergone a powerful transformation. What started as a conventional brick and mortar model brokerage firm has steadily grown into a full-fledged, technology-enabled leading and trusted market player.

We evolved in four major ways:

– Digitization of trading and client servicing.

– Strengthening research to support informed Investing.

– Enhancing institutional credibility through governance and compliance.

– Expanding our reach to younger, retail-focused audiences.

This evolution reflects disciplined strategy, an unwavering focus on ethics, and a team committed to the Pakistan growth story.

Being part of the Fauji Group and Askari Bank adds significant credibility and strength. How does this association contribute to FSL’s stability, growth, and market trust?

The Fauji Group name carries a legacy of discipline, trust, and national contribution. For Foundation Securities, this association is both a responsibility and an asset.

It brings:

– Financial stability that reassures investors.

– Institutional governance that sets us apart.

– Market confidence rooted in a two decades long  legacy.

– Long-term strategic thinking instead of short-term opportunism.

This stability gives clients the assurance that their investments are handled with integrity and prudence.

With tools like the FSL Trading App and WhatsApp Broking, how is Foundation Securities making investing more accessible and convenient for the modern investor?

Our philosophy is simple:

Investing should be as easy as sending a message.

Open account online from mobile, desktop to laptop. The account opening time which used to be 4 -5 days has now been reduced to one day only using our website or app.

The FSL Trading App delivers real-time access, seamless execution, intuitive charting, portfolio visibility, and research insights—all in one place. You can also transfer funds to Foundation in simple click using your banking App.

Meanwhile, we are one of the few brokerage houses who provide WhatsApp broking services just like WhatsApp banking services.

This combination has been especially powerful for young Pakistanis, overseas Pakistanis, and first-time investors. We are taking the stock market out of traditional settings and putting it into people’s hands.

A large part of Pakistan’s population is under 30. What strategies is FSL using to educate and attract young investors toward the stock market?

Pakistan’s youth is our economic engine. Gen Z and millennials  are about 60 – 62 percent of population. We focus on empowering them through:

– Virtual trading App to give them training and market feel.

– Financial literacy content tailored for beginners.

– Digital learning series that simplify market concepts.

– Campus and online workshops on investing and  compounding.

– Influencer collaborations to widen reach.

– Low-barrier investment options, open simple Sahulat account with only Rs 5000.

We aim to help young people see investing as a disciplined, long-term habit.

How would you describe the current state of the Pakistan Stock Market, and what key trends do you foresee shaping its future?

The Pakistan Stock Market is entering a promising phase. Despite macroeconomic cycles, corporate profitability remains strong, valuations are attractive, and investor confidence is gradually improving.

The future will be shaped by:

– Digital participation and mobile-driven trading

– Increasing retail participation.

– Product diversification including ETFs and REITs.

A shift toward long-term financial planning

These trends will drive the PSX on the back of improving macro-economic conditions

In a time when financial scams are increasing, how does FSL ensure investor protection and maintain transparency in its operations?

Trust is the foundation of our business. We ensure strong investor protection through:

– Robust KYC and AML systems

– Secure digital onboarding

– Transparent fee structure

– Strong Compliance

What’s next for Foundation Securities? Are there any upcoming technologies, partnerships, or initiatives that you’re personally excited about?
