Yes, that’s right. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first choice for Rani Padmini was Aishwarya and the actress herself confessed this in an interview that, “He didn’t get the Bajirao for me. He wanted me to do Padmaavat, but could not get the Khilji for me, at the casting time. So, that’s how it didn’t happen.”
She also added, “So, at the end of the day, you need to see the casting. If the casting is not happening, then sometimes, it doesn’t come together. The intention is always there to work together, but it didn’t happen. We both loved working with each other, so let’s see, whenever it is meant to be.” According to reports, Bhansali initially wanted to make Bajirao Mastani with Aishwarya and Salman Khan but the project couldn’t happen because of Salman and Aishwarya’s break-up. The film finally happened with Deepika and Ranveer.
She has previously worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas, both of which were huge hits at the box office.
