When it comes to festival style, makeup is essential—but making looks that’ll stay on through dust storms and crowd surfing sweat is no easy feat. It’s time to call in the experts.
All About That Base
Sunblock should be number one on every packing list—even if you “don’t burn,” even if you’re wearing a super cute hat, even if there’s 100 percent chance of rain. For a lightweight formula that still protects skin.
When it comes to festival foundation, Armani is the favorite of the makeup artist set. Colby Smith used a mix of Neutrogena sunblock and Giorgio Armani Luminessence CC Cream to keep his own skin glowing.
Taking care of your skin is also important post-festival, especially for campers. “The boys will love you if you hand them a makeup wipe 18 hours into the festival—it just feels so good to wipe your face off with the layer of dirt you have on,” Smith says. “Baby wipes and makeup wipes are must have, hands-down festival item because you can clean your pits and clean your face and feel like a whole new person.”
Singing in the Rain
Consider Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Seal the holy grail of waterproofing. Just add a couple drops to your favorite eyeliner/foundation/whatever to make sure it stays on through anything. Patrick Ta uses L’Oréal Voluminous Carbon Black Waterproof Mascara to lock in curved lashes.
Shine Bright Like a Diamond
For maximum impact, minimum effort, channel Colby Smith repurposes Flash Tattoos as under-eye embellishments. Just pick up a pack, cut the tat into circles/lines/whatever pattern you want, and apply to the triangle below your eyes and along your cheekbones.
The Flaming Lips
There are two key ways to do lipstick at a music festival: reach for something that’ll stay on all day or pick a product with a beautiful fade.
For a more low maintenance mouth, wear like a tinted balm stain. Swipe on a couple layers for evenly saturated pigment that’ll fade into a popsicle-mouth sheen. All of the shades are moisturizing and sheer enough to apply without looking—no compact mirror or iPhone camera required.
