Have you ever dreamed of getting your own castle? Spending a life of majesty with the princess-y feels you always dreamed of having. Well, it seems that your wish is finally going to be fulfilled. Italy has decided to give away castles to the people willing to get, and that too completely free. The country is giving away 103 run-down properties including inns, villas and castles.
But, there is a minor catch here too. Italy’s State Property Agency expects that anyone who gets a free castle or any of the lands they are providing must promise to restore it to be used for other purposes, favouring tourist destination. It is up to the owner to decide if he wants to re-brand it to some park, hotel or museum.
Roberto Reggi from the State Property Agency, describing the project, said:
“The project will promote and support the development of the slow tourism sector. The goal is for private and public buildings which are no longer used to be transformed into facilities for pilgrims, hikers, tourists, and cyclists.”
The higher authorities also hope that this initiative will help them cater to the ever increasing crowd in popular tourist destinations like Venice.
The deadline of the application is 26th June, successful applicants will get nine months to initially work on the project. If approved of what they are doing, another nine months could possibly be extended as well. However, there is no need to worry for those who don’t get their approval this year, as Italy plans on giving away 200 more land pieces within the next 2 years.
