Michelle Obama named most admired woman in USA in annual poll

Former first lady Michelle Obama has been named America’s most admired woman for the second year in a row, according to a Gallup poll conducted this month. Ten percent of people surveyed by Gallup between Dec. 2 and Dec. 15 named Obama as the woman they most admired this year, living or dead. The number was 5% down from last year, when she garnered 15% of the vote amid promotion for her bestselling autobiography, “Becoming.”

The second most admired woman in the country was Melania Trump, according to Gallup. Company officials said she was named most admired by 5% of respondents.

Obama was the only woman to rank in double digits. After Obama and Trump (who garnered 5% of votes), former talk show host Oprah Winfrey and teen climate change activist Greta Thunberg tied for fourth place with 3% each on the most admired women list.

Obama’s husband, former president Barack Obama, tied President Donald Trump this year for most admired man. It is Barack Obama’s 12th time in the top spot and the first time for President Trump, according to Gallup. Michelle Obama was also named world’s most admired woman in July in an annual study conducted by online research firm YouGov.

The former first lady’s memoir, “Becoming”, was the bestselling book of 2018.
