A group of unknown individuals known as ‘Beelas’ have allegedly attempted to gang rape transgenders in Pakistan. Moiz, one of the victims takes it to social media and made a video explaining the episode in which he shared how violence took place before the security arrived. He shares the details of the alleged group ‘Beelas’ explaining that they mostly attack the birthday parties or places where a number of transgenders are found, they attack them and multiple gang rapes along with money stealing takes place at every other events. They are mostly subjected to widespread discrimination and harassment on daily basis. The organized harassments and their heinous crimes should be stopped at all cost to protect the rights of transgender community and people should use their platforms to raise voices against such crimes.
Pakistan has a long history of failing to protect the rights of marginalized groups, such as transgender people. Despite numerous international human rights conventions, the country has only recently enacted a law that provides limited protection to transgender people. Even after which, there’s no such rights given to trans community and their rights violation is on peak. A recent event grabbed the attention of people again which took place on 19th September, 2020 at a birthday party.
Human rights violations are still happening in Pakistan. Despite the progress made in addressing the issue, the transgender community is still facing various forms of discrimination and harassment. They are also subjected to various forms of abuse, including sexual and physical violence.
