Oscar nominated actress to boycott ‘Oscar Awards’ over Muslim visa ban

Iranian actress of Oscar-nominated film “The Salesman” said that she would boycott the Oscar Awards in protest of President Donald Trump’s “racist” ban on Muslim immigrants.

“Trump’s visa ban for Iranians is racist. Whether this will include a cultural event or not, I won’t attend the #AcademyAwards 2017 in protest,” tweeted Taraneh Alidoosti, the film’s 33-year-old lead actress.

Trump is likely to stop visas for travelers from 7 Muslim states including Iran for 30 days. While talking to a news representative, Trump said that his plan was not a “Muslim ban”, but instead, targeting countries that “have tremendous terror.”

“The Salesman”, directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi has been nominated for “Best Foreign Language Film” at the Academy Awards, which will take place next month. Previously, Farhadi has won an Oscar for his film “A Separation”, in 2012.

As far as the visa ban is concerned, visa applications from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen are expected to be stopped for a month according to an article published in the Washington Post and New York Times.
