Pakistani film ‘Durj’ to be part of Cannes Film Festival

Shamoon Abbasi’s upcoming film ‘Durj’, which touches the untapped genre of cannibalism, will be screened at Cannes Film Festival.

The film, which will hit theaters on Eid this year, made headlines for its unique topic soon after its trailer was released. In a recent interview to local media, Abbasi gave details about upcoming Pakistani web series titled ‘Mind-Games’, which might potentially go on Netflix, and also revealed that his next film ‘Durj’ will be screened at Cannes.

Sharing the inspiration behind the story line for ‘Durj’, Abbasi said in a previous interview that the story is based on not one but three real-life incidents that happened in Pakistan. “Two of them happened in Punjab. One was about these two brothers (Arif and Farman), who dug over 100 graves and ate corpses. Somehow they were getting away with the crime,” he said.

It took a lot of research for Abbasi to find a way to tell the story and understand his stance on cannibalism. He revealed the film has a lighter side and isn’t only an intense thriller. Other than Abbasi, the film also stars model/actress Sherry Shah.
