Shows to binge-watch on Netflix right now!

Looking for your next binge watch? You’ve come to the right place.

Netflix is adding new original series and old favorites all the time (And yes, occasionally taking them away again), so check out some of the best TV series on the service right now.

Who knows? Your next obsession could be here.

Black Mirror:

Each episode of Black Mirror tells a single story, with a theme of modern and near-future technology running through each unnerving tale. It’s often compared to The Twilight Zone for its episodic nature, and just like that classic series, some of the stories will leave you sitting and staring at a blank television, wondering what you just watched. Beyond all of the thought-provoking, mind-bending, and world-building, the acting and aesthetic is smart and nuanced, and will leave even the best spoiler guessers out there reeling from the sharp twists and turns in every episode.

The Crown:

Britain’s current and longest-reigning monarch is also one of its most unassuming. Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in the aftermath of World War II, at a time when the monarchy had ceded much of its power to Parliament and the Prime Minister. Despite a lack of governmental power, the Queen remains one of the most important heads of state in the world, and civic duties abound. Netflix’s The Crown traces Elizabeth’s (Claire Foy) life from her marriage to Prince Philip (Matt Smith) in 1947 to the present day, digging into the web of agendas and alliances the Queen must navigate. Heavy on political intrigue, The Crown is sure to satisfy viewers who appreciate Machiavellian television. However, the show also has a deeply intimate side, in that it examines Elizabeth’s personal relationships and the toll exacted by her duties as Queen.

Penny Dreadful:

Some of literature’s most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein and his monster, Dorian Gray, and iconic figures from the novel Dracula are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. They are joined by a core of original characters in a complex, frightening new narrative. Penny Dreadful is a psychological thriller filled with dark mystery and suspense, where personal demons from the past can be stronger than vampires, evil spirits and immortal beasts.

Dead to Me:

Here’s the set-up: two middle-aged women meet at a grief counselling session. They bond over mutual loss and become fast friends. However, one of them is guarding a dark secret that threatens to upend their friendship and derail both of their lives entirely. It’s a touching exploration of grief and female friendship with a gripping, soapy undercurrent that will have you dying to rush through all ten episodes to get to the shocking conclusion.

Making a Murderer:

Following the story of Steven Avery, a Wisconsin man who served 18 years in prison after being wrongly accused of attempted murder and sexual assault, and was subsequently convicted of a different murder, this series has gripped the world and become the focus of much debate. Made by filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos the extraordinary piece of television was filmed over a decade. A must watch for any true crime fans.

Dark:

Events take place in a small German town called Winden. Two months ago, Jonas returned to the school with his father committing suicide. A couple of weeks ago when he came back, he learns that a child is lost in the town. Days of searching have remained unsuccessful and the whole town is on the thorn. With the disappearance of one of the children who have gone out to have fun together in order to get away from the tension of their parents, things get mixed up in the town.

You:

YOU is a 21st century love story that asks, “What would you do for love?” When a brilliant bookstore manager crosses paths with an aspiring writer, his answer becomes clear: anything. Using the internet and social media as his tools to gather the most intimate of details and get close to her, a charming and awkward crush quickly becomes obsession as he quietly and strategically removes every obstacle – and person – in his way.

Jessica Jones:

Ever since her short-lived stint as a superhero ended in tragedy, Jessica Jones has been rebuilding her personal life and career as a hot-tempered, sardonic private detective in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Plagued by self-loathing and a wicked case of PTSD, Jessica battles demons from within and without, using her extraordinary abilities as an unlikely champion for those in need. Especially if they’re willing to cut her a check.

Money Heist:

Under the guidance of a mysterious man called “The Professor”, a group of robbers, Tokyo, Rio, Berlin, Nairobi, Denver, Moscow, Oslo, and Helsinki, invade the Royal Mint of Spain wearing Salvador Dalí masks, and take hold of 67 hostages as part of their plan to print, and escape with, €2.4 billion

Stranger Things:

In a small town where everyone knows everyone, a peculiar incident starts a chain of events that leads to the disappearance of a child, which begins to tear at the fabric of an otherwise peaceful community. Dark government agencies and seemingly malevolent supernatural forces converge on the town, while a few of the locals begin to understand that there’s more going on than meets the eye.
