Wendy’s is finally coming to Britain

Popular American burger chain Wendy’s plans to open restaurants in the UK for the first time. The fast food retailer are eyeing up several locations across Britain to rival companies such as Burger King and McDonald’s.

Wendy’s is the third-largest burger chain on the face of the planet – and its resurgence in the UK will allow them to begin conquering Europe.

For example, since their arrival in the UK in 2013, Five Guys have reportedly opened more than 100 restaurants, with tens more in the pipeline according to Big Hospitality. The Wendy’s Company president of the international division and chief development officer Abigail Pringle told investors the fast food market in the UK is growing at almost 3% per year.

This isn’t the first time Wendy’s has tried to cross the pond – it first came to the UK in the 1980s and 1990s, but decided to close all their UK stores in 1999.

The market has changed a lot in the past two decades, and American chains such as Five Guys have already seen huge success in the UK. Wendy’s was founded in Ohio, USA in 1969 and is now the world’s third largest burger chain after McDonald’s and Burger King.

It has over 6,700 outlets in 30 countries across the Americas, Asia and the Middle East. The Wendy’s USA menu includes hamburgers, breakfast burgers, croissant bun burgers, chicken nuggets and more.

Earlier this month, Wendy’s reintroduced its popular spicy nuggets to the menu which have proved hugely popular with hungry Americans.
