Why Is Hamza Ali Abaasi Banned?

There was a time when people used to watch the Ramzan transmission to get new recipes and Islamic information. Then with the passage of time the transmission slowly changed into game shows and these game shows turned the people into beggers. Every channel is in a marathon of TRP’s and every channels wants to do special transmission which is different from other TV Channels. What should I say about our so called people who visit such Ramzan transmission or should I say game shows. These people only go to such shows to get gifts. And literally I have seen people begging for bikes or Umrah tickets.

Anyways recently Pemra banned Hamza Ali Abbasi and TV show host Shabbir Abu Talib from hosting their Ramzan shows on Aaj TV and News One, respectively. In an announcement issued on Friday, PEMRA said that it had received around 1,133 complaints through Whatsapp, Twitter and telephone calls regarding the transmissions.

The complainants said that both the shows aired offensive content.

“During these transmissions, ratings remain the focus under the appearance of Ramzan shows,” read the PEMRA statement, adding that “provoking conversations took place during the shows which has led to much anger”.

PEMRA asked both Aaj TV and TV One to put up with the decision by 7pm on Friday. But unfortunately TV channel owners, anchors and audience were indulged in non-serious and reckless conversation,” added the statement.

Hamza, who co-hosts the post-Iftar transmission, Ramzan Hamara Emaan with Aisha Khan for Aaj TV, was holding discussions on the Ahmadi community and blasphemy laws during his show.

“Why is Ahmadi such a taboo word? Ideological stances aside, my only goal is that when an Ahmadi is killed or persecuted, the media shouldn’t be scared to talk about it,” Hamza had said.

The media controller asked both TV channels to immediately stop airing the said programmes, failing of which will end up in the removal of their transmissions on cable.
