Must watch 3 foreign films

There was a time when I find it hard to watch films in a foreign language but as I started watching it, I reluctantly enjoyed it. What I liked most about these films is that they showcase their own culture in it and it builds your knowledge as well. Also, I believe cinema has no boundaries and we tend to ignore and not appreciate different cinemas except for Bollywood and Hollywood. Recently, I explored different foreign cinemas, and here are my 3 favorite films.

1. A SEPARATION

Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi’s film “A Separation” is a story about a couple who is getting divorced because the wife wants to move abroad for a family’s better future and the husband has to take care of his ailing father. Later on, more complications surfaced man. The story is simple and revolves around the regular issue. Farhadi’s other films also revolve around the domestic issues of Iran.

2. PARASITE

Last year, this South-Korean film made it to Emmy and took multiple awards. The hype of this film made me watch it. Director Bong Joon Ho’s film Parasite is one of the best films made in a long time. The film is a tale of two families from opposite ends of the socioeconomic spectrum. This is a perfect blend of suspense, mystery, and drama. The film surrounds the theme of greed and class discrimination.

3. SHOPLIFTER

Shoplifter, a beautiful family drama by the Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-Eda falls into the mess with a story about a poor household. From father to son, the family presents an unusual domestic picture as the family steals whatever thieving to live but also as a way of life. The film is beautiful with quiet brutality. They have no moral compass. the film isn’t driven by plot, we’re just observing the family and their routine but as the film continues the sad climax will make you watch the film again.
