The journey of a visionary film maker – Dr. Mashood Qadri

Dr. Qadri’s journey begins with a strong foundation in the medical field. He graduated from Dow University Medical Center in Karachi in 1992. His thirst for knowledge led him to undertake fellowship training at NYU Medical Center in Psychiatry, followed by residency training at UMNDJ in Internal Medicine. Dr. Qadri’s passion for nephrology and hypertension led him to complete his fellowship in these fields at LSU Health Shreveport.

His commitment to the medical profession saw him rise through the ranks to become an Assistant Professor at LSUHS in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Qadri’s dedication to education extended beyond the classroom, as he actively engaged in teaching medical students, residents, and healthcare professionals. His impressive contributions to the field earned him multiple national awards, solidifying his status as a distinguished figure in medicine.

What makes Dr. Qadri’s story truly unique is his seamless transition into the world of cinema. Despite a thriving medical career, he explored his creative side, authoring the satire “Awam Ki Adalat” and venturing into filmmaking.

One of his notable contributions as a writer and producer is the critically acclaimed feature film “Saawan.” This compelling narrative is a suspense drama set in remote deserts, portraying the challenges faced by a young disabled boy who embarks on a journey to reunite with his mother. The film’s poignant storytelling, combined with Dr. Qadri’s skillful screenplay, resonated deeply with audiences and garnered recognition on the international stage. “Saawan” earned an impressive 11 international film awards, including its selection as Pakistan’s submission for the ‘Foreign Language Film Award’ category at the 90th Academy Awards.

Dr. Qadri’s artistic journey hasn’t been without its fair share of challenges. His feature film “Aar Par” faced hurdles but ultimately triumphed with 8 international film awards. It’s a testament to his perseverance and commitment to storytelling.
