Home remedies for a sore throat

Sore throats are quite common and almost always painful. While a sore throat that lasts more than a few days may be cause for medical inspection, many tried-and-true home remedies can help ease symptoms until the body has dealt with the allergies, infection, or other issue that is causing the pain.

Poor, sore throat. Is there anything that can help? A sore throat makes it more difficult to eat, drink, sleep, talk and generally function — and who wants that? Find relief for your sore throat with these helpful at-home remedies:

  • Rest.
  • Get plenty of sleep, Rest your voice, too.
  • Drink fluids, Fluids keep the throat moist and prevent dehydration. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can dehydrate you.
  • Pop a pain reliever, Ibuprofen can help put a stop to the coughing and throat-clearing that prevents your sore throat from healing.
  • Gargling, dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of salt or a similar amount of baking soda in a glass of warm water.
  • Steam and humidity, Take a hot shower. When it gets really steamy, breathe in the throat-clearing magic.
