For anyone who doesn’t know, Karachi is the largest city of Pakistan and also 12th largest city in whole world! It is located in the province Sindh, southern Pakistan which is situated along the Arabian Sea. It is one of the highly populated city in the world with the population of nearly 16,459,472. It has 3,780 km² long area. A metropolitan and cosmopolitan city with a largest seaport and industrial, commercial centers. The national language in the city is Urdu, however, it has a lot of different people from different backgrounds living here. It feels like a home to everyone, even if you’re not born or raised here. It is known as the, ‘City Of Lights’ because it never sleeps. Apart from all the issues, Karachi still got our heart and we can never forget what it has given to us.

 

Below are some hidden facts about Karachi, that we believe not everybody knows:

  • First Name – KOLACHI

Not too many people know the fact that ‘Karachi’ was not Karachi before. It was first named under Alexander Krokola as ‘Krokola’ which was later changed to Debal by Bin Qasim. In 1792, it was named as Kolachi which was again changed to Karachi, at the end. Karachi is now one of the fasting growing city and supports every ethnic group in Pakistan.

  • Diversity

People living in Karachi are just not from Sindh only, but from all over the globe. It has many different communities living with different backgrounds and values. It basically is home for everybody and welcomes them with open heart. A lot of immigrants from different countries are living here like Afghanistan, China, Bangladesh, Africans etc. Here, every karachite supports one another apart from their religion and cultural values which may differ from each other.

  • Food Hub

One of the greatest food hub of Pakistan is definitely going to be Karachi, without any doubt. You can find all the food here, from street food to high end restaurants, we’ve got them all with amazing variety. The most famous food street has to be Burns Road because it has everything, be it Chinese food, desi food, sea food, street food. If you visiting Karachi, do plan to have a stop at this street to satisfy your cravings because you badly NEED it!

  • Ancient Artistry

Talking about ancient buildings and architecture, Karachi is blessed with it too. It attracts tourism and people visit city to explore these amazing ancient artistry buildings. We see a lot of clothing brands or even, bridal shoots being done there because it gives a royal effect. We’ve places like Frere Hall, Mohata Palace, Quaid-e-Azam Mosque, Wazir Mansion, SBP Art Museum and Gallery, Masjid-e-Tooba and many more.

  • Grand Mosque – Third Largest

Third largest mosque in the world?! YES, you heard it right! After Makkah and Madinah, it is the largest mosque which is built in Bahria Town, Karachi, Pakistan. The mosque’s name is “Grand Jamiah” and it is funded by Malik Riaz. It is Nayyar Ali Dada’s idea and it is going to be fully completed in 2021. It has the capacity of 950,000 people.
